Report Archive Facility automatically archives IBM AS/400 reports and
compresses them
by 80 to 90% to conserve disk space.
There are three ways to Archive Reports.
- 1. Manually on Request
Select option 1 from the Manual operation menu. This presents a list almost
identical with the WRKSPLF display. To archive a report manually enter an
11 in the option field.
- 2. In the CL Program Printing the Report
To archive a report in the CL calling the report program, insert these lines:
CALL PGM(SA2514R) /* Print report*/
Insert these two lines:
ARXSPLR FILE(SA2514P) SPLNBR(*LAST)
RLSSPLF FILE(SA2514P) SPLNRB(*LAST)
- 3. Automatically with Auto Archiver
The Automatic operation menu allows you to display the archiver status,
to start and stop it and to display, print or clear the log. The Setup menu allows
you to select output queues to monitor as shown below.
Retrieving Archived Reports
When you want to print a report, use the report index list to identify the report
to be printed. Enter a 5 to display reports or a 10 to reprint reports.
Saving/Restoring Archived Files
Reports are archived to database files called archive files. To save these files
to tape, enter a 9 in the option field.
Report Archive Facility is the indispensable tool for a well organised data
processing department. Without it you risk losing or being unable to view or
reprint vital reports. Just think of the effort involved in having to find,
retrieve and reprint an invoice originally generated a year ago!
With Report Archive Facility, nothing could be easier!
RAF/400 supports all versions of both CISC and RISC OS/400
