Data Base Utility (DBU) - File Access Utility for the IBM AS/400
Overview
Data Base Utility (DBU) is a file access utility which can be used to locate and update records from one to as many as four different files via logical paths or relative record numbers in any physical file. No creation time is involved. In the Green Screen version, just key in the command DBU followed by a file name and press "Enter". An easy-to-read, formatted screen will appear instantly.
Optional Graphical User Interface (GUI) in Version 7.0
The optional Graphical User Interface (GUI) in Version 7.0, developed by using Java, means that DBU may be used on any Windows platform or on any operating system with a compatible Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Using a TCP/IP connection, information from the database is presented in an Operations Navigator-like screen. Additionally there is an Operations Navigator database node allowing the DBU to "plug in" to IBM's graphical operations interface, which makes for easier operations management and display of library/file information.
DBU also works with logicals over multiple physicals with multiple members and join files (display only on join files). Members and/or formats may be selected from the logicals to be displayed or updated.
Records may be updated or displayed in character or hexadecimal mode. Keys may be set to access logical files and fields may be selected for display or update.
